The InnFocus MicroShunt® is a drainage implant device used to prevent the progression of glaucoma and vision loss. It is made of SIBS.
SIBS is the most biostable thermoplastic elastomeric material currently in existence.
The material is extremely inert with minimal inflammatory reaction and minimal capsule formation. The lack of chronic inflammation around SIBS has enabled the development of the InnFocus MicroShunt® technology. The SIBS material and designed implant provide a stiffness (or modulus) that allows the device to conform to the eye's curvature.
InnFocus scientists, in collaboration with scientists at the University of Miami's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, have demonstrated that ophthalmic implants made from SIBS are significantly less irritating, less inflammatory and less likely to form capsules than similarly shaped silicone rubber implants.
